Romantic love, unconditional love
30 November 2008, 23:27 by Jimmy Sie

Can someone love unconditionally? A mother or parents can love their children unconditionally and likewise children can love their parents and siblings unconditionally. Man and woman? I think it’s more difficult to find such love between man and woman. What I mean is romantic love between man and woman.

Romantic love or it’s also known as eros is usually, or dare I say almost always, selfish. It demands requital or one has to suffer the agony and anguish of an unrequited love.

Can romantic love and unconditional love that are directed to the same individual co-exist? I guess one has to experience it to be able to find answers to this question. On certain aspects both can co-exist without any problem for they have some things in common. But on some other aspects, the contradictions that these two kinds of love produce can cause one to be in a very difficult dilemma. For the conflict between the two is not an easy one to resolve.

Should one try to avoid such situation? Every one is entitled to his or her own opinion, but I think you would easily guess which one is mine. Amo, ergo sum!
